Volvo Cars experienced a 10.7% decline in global sales for the third quarter of 2026, delivering 141,609 vehicles. The company attributed the decrease to continued softness in the Chinese market and a slower-than-anticipated recovery in the U.S. luxury car segment.

"This directly impacted our third quarter sales performance," said Erik Severinson, Volvo Cars Chief Commercial Officer. He noted that market conditions have led third-party analysts to lower their overall luxury car market sales forecasts for 2026.

Sales of fully electric vehicles increased by 29% and represented 32% of total sales. Electrified vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, accounted for 53% of the total deliveries for the quarter.

In Europe and the rest of the world, retail deliveries were stable with a 2% increase to 90,548 vehicles, driven by a 51% surge in fully electric car sales. In China, deliveries fell by 40.6% to 20,284 vehicles, which the company stated was due to increased local competition and price wars, along with macroeconomic pressures.

The Americas region saw a 14% decrease in sales, totaling 30,777 vehicles. This was attributed to persistently weak consumer confidence, heightened competition in the SUV segment, and a high comparable base from the prior year's purchasing surge before subsidies expired.
