Volvo to Build Large Energy Storage Facility in Sweden
Volvo announced plans to construct a 70 MW/260 MWh energy storage facility in Mariestad, Sweden, near its battery production site. The facility is expected to be operational by 2027.
Automaker Volvo has announced the construction of a significant energy storage facility in Mariestad, Sweden, adjacent to its ongoing battery production site.
The facility will initially deploy 70 megawatts of power and 260 megawatt-hours of storage capacity. Upon completion in 2027, it is slated to become one of Sweden's largest energy storage installations and will serve as a testing ground for innovative energy solutions.
The Mariestad energy park is intended to enhance the stability and resilience of the local energy system by allowing stored electricity to be fed back into the grid when external demand requires it. The project will also provide Volvo and its partners with experience in transitioning towards a low-emission society.
Furthermore, the site will function as a customer demonstration base, enabling the development and refinement of customer-facing energy solutions and services at a real-world scale and with practical commercial applications.
