Volvo XC60 and XC90 Plug-in Hybrids Get Extended Electric Range
Volvo has updated its XC60 and XC90 SUV plug-in hybrids, significantly increasing their electric-only driving range. The models also receive subtle styling and interior technology upgrades.
Volvo has announced updates for its XC60 and XC90 plug-in hybrid SUVs, set to reach the 2028 model year. The most significant change is a substantial increase in the electric-only driving range, more than doubling the previous capabilities. This upgrade aims to enhance the practicality and appeal of these popular hybrid models.
Visually, the updated SUVs feature revised styling, including tweaked "Thor's Hammer" headlights with matrix LED projectors and a refined front grille. Minor adjustments have also been made to the bumpers and body panels, maintaining the distinctive Volvo aesthetic. Inside, a new ventilated leather interior option is available, alongside an upgraded 11.2-inch infotainment system.
The new infotainment system integrates a "Gemini" personal assistant, offering enhanced conversational voice control for the Android Automotive OS. Initial testing suggests this voice assistant performs more effectively than its predecessor. The XC60, in particular, is a key model for Volvo, having sold over 2.7 million units globally by the end of last year.
These enhancements position the XC60 and XC90 hybrids to better compete in the evolving automotive market, where extended electric range is becoming a crucial factor for consumers. The focus on improved electric performance addresses consumer demand for greater efficiency and reduced reliance on the internal combustion engine.
