Von Holzhausen's Liquidplant Named to TIME's Best Inventions List 2026
Von Holzhausen's plant-based plastic alternative, Liquidplant, has been recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the Best Inventions of 2026. The material offers a replacement for petroleum-based plastics.
The company von Holzhausen has announced that its plant-based polymer pellet, Liquidplant®, has been named to TIME Magazine's list of The Best Inventions of 2026. The annual list features 300 extraordinary innovations changing our lives.
Developed using patented green chemistry, Liquidplant® begins as a plant-based polymer pellet that can be transformed into various forms using existing manufacturing processes. It serves as a drop-in replacement for conventional materials such as EVA, TPU, and polyethylene, finding applications in footwear, wearable technology, and injection-molded components.
To scale production, von Holzhausen is constructing a manufacturing facility in Georgia, aiming to expand domestic production capacity and accelerate commercialization. The company is also collaborating with brands in the footwear, technology, and healthcare sectors to integrate Liquidplant® into real-world applications.
TIME compiled its list by soliciting nominations from its editors and correspondents worldwide and through an online application process, focusing on emerging fields. Each contender was evaluated on originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact. Liquidplant® aims to provide sustainable material solutions without compromising performance and seeks to eliminate fossil fuels, microplastics, and toxic chemicals from supply chains.
