Vrbo Offers Guidance for Smoother Group Travel

Expedia-owned Vrbo has published a guide aimed at simplifying group travel, addressing common friction points that arise when people travel together. The release comes ahead of the spring break travel season.

According to data compiled by Vrbo, demand for group travel is steadily increasing, with significant portions of travelers reporting disagreements during group vacations. The study highlights that up to 33% of travelers have experienced conflicts on group holidays, a figure that rises among younger demographics.

The guide emphasizes financial transparency and clear communication regarding shared costs. Vrbo suggests establishing explicit agreements on how expenses, from accommodation to groceries, will be divided. The platform notes varying opinions on fair cost-sharing, such as whether members arriving late or leaving early should contribute less. For accommodation, it stresses the importance of having enough beds, as many travelers prioritize a private sleeping space over sharing a bedroom. The ratio of people to bathrooms is also highlighted, with four individuals per full bathroom cited as a common maximum.

Vrbo also recommends utilizing planning tools and selecting reliable properties. The platform encourages the use of group chats and its own "Trip Planner" feature for coordination and idea sharing. It advises travelers to leverage filters like "Loved by Guests" and "Premier Host" to identify high-quality, well-managed properties based on past guest reviews and host performance. Reading verified reviews is presented as a key step to ensure accommodation meets expectations.
