Walmart Bettergoods Pasta Recall Expanded Over Listeria Contamination Fears

Walmart has expanded its recall of a Bettergoods brand pasta product due to potential Listeria contamination. The initial recall, which focused on specific lot numbers, has now been broadened to include all lot codes of the "Bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine," as reported by Fast Company.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a notice on October 1 detailing the expanded recall. The product is manufactured by Gias Foods of New York City. This follows an earlier recall initiated on September 15, which initially only targeted select packages of the frozen pasta.

Bettergoods is Walmart's premium private-label grocery brand, launched in 2024 to offer distinct, higher-quality products. The brand has faced several recalls during its short history, including waffle products and pistachio nut butter due to contamination concerns.

The recalled product is the 22 oz "Bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine" with UPC 194346442706. It was distributed to Walmart stores nationwide. Consumers are advised to return the product to their place of purchase for a refund.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious infections, particularly in pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. According to the CDC, Listeria infections cause approximately 1,250 illnesses and 172 deaths in the U.S. annually.
