Walnut Coding Students Instruct at Huawei Cloud Training Camp
Two young students from Walnut Coding, aged 8 and 15, served as instructors at the Huawei Cloud Developer Training Camp. They presented AI-assisted projects they built using Huawei tools.
Two students from Walnut Coding, aged 8 and 15, have acted as instructors at the Huawei Cloud Developer Training Camp in Beijing. The company, an online platform for youth coding education, stated that the children demonstrated their ability to use AI coding assistants to build and present functional applications.
Bolin Du, 8, and Peiqi Gao, 15, developed projects utilizing Huawei Cloud's AI coding assistant, CodeArts. They then presented their work, explaining the design choices, technical implementation, and debugging process to the camp attendees. Gao created a travel planning application, while Du built an interactive calendar application.
The participation highlights a shift in youth coding education, driven by the rise of AI tools. Walnut Coding argues that the focus is moving from merely writing code to developing critical judgment: identifying problems, breaking them down, and evaluating the quality of AI-generated code.
Pengxuan Zeng, founder and CEO of Walnut Coding, stated that while AI accelerates code generation, it cannot replace human judgment in problem-solving and validation. He emphasized that the students' demonstration of turning ideas into working products underscores the continued importance of learning programming fundamentals in the AI era.
