Discovery asserts that Barlow's employment contract was not set to expire until October 31, 2027. The company accuses Amazon of inducing employees to break their existing contracts and offering to indemnify them for any legal repercussions.
Warner Bros. Discovery also alleged that Amazon attempted to poach another employee under a contract set to expire in December 2027, though this individual ultimately remained with Warner Bros. Discovery. This legal dispute is expected to reignite discussions regarding the enforceability of term employment agreements under California law.
Amazon MGM Studios has declined to provide a comment on the lawsuit. The case highlights potential conflicts over hiring practices and contractual obligations within the competitive media and entertainment industry.
