Wärtsilä will supply propulsion systems and engines for the first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessels currently under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). The technology is intended for the U.S.-based Delfin LNG project, which aims to expand regional natural gas export capabilities.

The contract, which was booked during the second quarter of 2026, involves equipping the offshore facility with dual-fuel engines. This technical configuration allows the vessels to operate on different fuel sources, which is increasingly common in offshore energy infrastructure projects designed to balance operational costs and emissions profiles.

This supply agreement reinforces Wärtsilä's position in the marine energy sector as global demand for LNG infrastructure grows. The move comes as energy firms seek more modular and flexible options for gas extraction and export compared to traditional onshore terminals.
