Wärtsilä to supply engines for Australia's largest reciprocating engine power plant

Technology group Wärtsilä has been selected to supply its Wärtsilä 46TS engines for Australia's largest-ever reciprocating engine power plant. The 300 MW plant will provide critical grid balancing and system security in the country.

The fast-starting flexible capacity provided by the Wärtsilä 46TS engines will enable greater integration of renewable energy into the power system. Wärtsilä booked the order in the third quarter of 2026.

Australia is accelerating its energy transition, increasing the need for flexible power generation that can support intermittent renewable sources such as solar and wind power.

The power plant is expected to play a key role in ensuring grid stability during the shift towards a more sustainable energy system.
