Water Well Trust hits milestone of 1,000 completed water wells
Nonprofit organization Water Well Trust has completed 1,000 water well projects since 2012, providing essential water access to low-income households across the United States.
The Water Well Trust has reached the milestone of 1,000 completed water wells since its founding in 2012. The organization provides low-interest loans for the construction and rehabilitation of household water wells and septic systems for rural homeowners who lack access to public water infrastructure.
The most recent project was finalized in Aroda, Virginia, restoring water access for a local veteran. Funding for the program is provided through the USDA’s Decentralized Water Systems (DWS) program, supplemented by matching funds from member companies of the Water Systems Council.
To date, the program has operated in 44 states and overseen 174 wastewater projects. With an estimated two million Americans lacking access to clean, safe drinking water, the organization continues to advocate for decentralized, well-based systems as a sustainable solution for rural populations.
