Waters Corporation, a manufacturer of analytical instruments, announced on November 3, 2026, the acquisition of MOBILion Systems, a company specializing in high-resolution ion mobility separation. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The integration of MOBILion’s Structures for Lossless Ion Manipulations (SLIM) technology is designed to enhance the analytical performance of Waters' mass spectrometry instruments. By separating molecules based on size, shape, and charge, the technology aims to provide higher resolution and throughput for proteomics research, specifically addressing data requirements for artificial intelligence-driven experiments.

Waters CEO Dr. Udit Batra stated that the move is intended to strengthen the company’s position in the proteomics market, which currently represents an estimated $2 billion addressable market. The acquisition is intended to bridge the gap between initial biomarker discovery and clinical validation, potentially supporting future applications in blood-based diagnostic testing.

MOBILion’s workforce and technical expertise will be absorbed into Waters, as the company seeks to scale its capabilities in large-cohort studies and automated lab-in-the-loop workflows.
