Waymo plans robotaxi service launch in Singapore

Alphabet-owned Waymo plans to launch a robotaxi service in Singapore in 2028, the company announced. This move is part of Waymo's strategy for international expansion.

Waymo vehicles are scheduled to arrive in Singapore within the next few months. Preparations will include mapping and autonomous testing with safety drivers present during 2027. The company aims to offer fully autonomous ride-hailing services to the public by 2028.

Launching the service requires approval from Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA). The city-state mandates a safety assessment for all autonomous vehicles before public operation.

Waymo has previously operated robotaxi services in cities like Phoenix and San Francisco in the US, but Singapore will mark its first international deployment of this kind.
