Waymo to Launch Driverless Taxis in Four New Cities
Alphabet-owned Waymo is preparing to launch its fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Denver, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Tampa. The initial rollout will be restricted to company employees.

Waymo, the self-driving technology company owned by Alphabet, is expanding its autonomous ride-hailing service to four new U.S. cities: Denver, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Tampa. However, the public will not be able to hail a ride immediately upon launch.
The company plans a phased rollout, beginning with Waymo employees. This approach allows the company to gather crucial feedback and refine the rider experience before opening the service to the general public. "Our employees will provide important feedback about the rider experience in the new cities," stated communications representative Sandy Karp, highlighting the importance of internal testing.
Waymo aims to open the service to public riders in all four cities by the end of the year, with the company indicating that public access will commence "soon." Specific timelines for each city's public launch are expected to vary.
Industry observers note that Waymo's strategy is a calculated and controlled expansion, consistent with its previous market entries. This soft launch approach, utilizing employees as initial testers, provides the company with more consistent data and control during the service's early stages.
