Waytek announced on October 13, 2026, that Charlie Kanan will retire as Chairman of the Board on December 31, 2026. This marks the end of a planned leadership transition after 14 years of service. Following his retirement, Kanan will be honored with the title of Chairman Emeritus and will continue to serve the company in an advisory capacity.

Kanan joined Waytek as CEO and Chairman in 2012. During his tenure, he guided the company through the pandemic and supply chain disruptions without employee layoffs. The company expanded its workforce and received the Minnesota Family Business Award in 2020. Andres Caballero was appointed CEO in June 2025.

Mike Larson, COO and co-owner, expressed gratitude for Kanan's leadership. "He helped us build a stronger business while staying true to who we are," Larson stated. "Naming him Chairman Emeritus recognizes that lasting contribution."

CEO Andres Caballero credited Kanan for facilitating a smooth leadership transition. "I am grateful for the foundation he helped build and pleased that we will continue to benefit from his perspective as an advisor," Caballero said.

The Chairman Emeritus title is honorary and carries no decision-making authority. In his advisory role, Kanan will provide counsel to the CEO and the incoming Chairman. Waytek expects to announce its next Chairman in the coming weeks.
