Waze Enhances Route Suggestions and Personalization with AI

Waze, the Google-owned navigation application, has launched new features powered by artificial intelligence and enhanced customization options. These updates aim to refine the user experience and bolster Waze's competitive standing against rivals like Apple Maps.

The advancements integrate Google's Gemini AI assistant. The app now generates route suggestions by considering both a user's historical travel data and observed urban traffic patterns. For instance, users who prefer highway driving will see such routes prioritized. Users retain the option to disable personalization through the app's settings.

Gemini capabilities are also being applied to destination discovery. Users can employ conversational queries, such as "Find a coffee shop open now" or "Find parking near Grand Mall," with Waze responding with a list of suitable options. Furthermore, Waze now enables map updates, like road closures or outdated addresses, to be reported through spoken input.

Waze is also rolling out a new Motorcycle Mode. This feature utilizes AI to identify specific shortcuts and road restrictions relevant to two-wheeled vehicles. It accounts for potential hazards for riders, such as potholes and narrow bridges, improving estimated arrival times and safety.
