WBBA Launches AI-Net Certification for Global Data Communications

The World Broadband Association (WBBA) officially launched its AI-Net program during the Broadband Development Summit in Bangkok. This global certification aims to guide countries and operators in transitioning from current connectivity-driven networks to intelligent, AI-powered infrastructure.

AI-Net certification moves beyond traditional metrics like bandwidth, focusing on three new pillars relevant to the AI era: national policy guidelines, collaborative industry ecosystems, and the adoption rate of Net5.5G. The WBBA states that this quantifiable system intends to accelerate the global rollout of Net5.5G and modernize network infrastructure.

The program emphasizes the network's role as a foundation for intelligent computing, demanding high throughput and low latency. Concurrently, AI-Net integrates artificial intelligence directly into network devices and management platforms, transforming networks from passive to proactive, self-optimizing systems. This aims to reduce operational complexity and maintenance costs for operators.

The AI-Net evaluation covers both macro and micro levels. On a macro level, it assesses national policy frameworks and industry collaboration. On a micro level, it compares operators' network intelligence and the deployment of Net5.5G technology. The WBBA intends to use the certification to foster global consensus and uniform standards.

The WBBA is an open, multilateral organization bringing together stakeholders in the cloud and broadband sectors. The AI-Net certification is part of the Network 2030 initiative, which seeks to build AI-ready network foundations and guide the industry toward an intelligent future by 2030.
