WebFX Study: 92% of AI Traffic Lands on Consideration and Decision-Stage Content
A WebFX analysis of nearly 600,000 AI sessions reveals that 92% of AI search traffic directs users to content focused on product evaluation and purchase decisions, challenging previous assumptions.

A new study by digital marketing agency WebFX, analyzing nearly 600,000 AI-driven website sessions, indicates that AI search assistants are predominantly guiding users toward the later stages of the buying journey. The research, spanning over 2,500 web pages across more than 15 industries, suggests AI is shortening the sales funnel, with most users arriving at content intended for evaluation and purchase.
The findings challenge the notion that AI primarily directs curious researchers to early-stage educational material. Instead, the study found that 92% of AI traffic landed on consideration or decision-stage content. Awareness-stage pages received only 2.3% of this traffic.
Specifically, pages designed to help users choose a provider or solution accounted for 55.3% of all AI-driven sessions. Transactional pages captured 68.9% of this traffic, significantly higher than the 18% directed to purely informational pages, highlighting a strong commercial intent.
This suggests a shift in user behavior, where AI is increasingly used to perform initial comparisons. A separate WebFX study found that AI traffic converts 1.2 times higher than traditional organic search traffic, reinforcing the conclusion that these visitors are further down the funnel and more ready to make a decision.
