WeChat for HarmonyOS receives update, new features reportedly coming
WeChat for HarmonyOS has been updated to version 8.0.19.44. Reports indicate that features such as text-prompted emoji packs and the ability to search old posts chronologically are set to launch soon.
WeChat's HarmonyOS app has received an update to version 8.0.19.44, according to Chinese tech outlet IT Home. The official release notes for the July 24 update state only that "some known issues have been fixed."
However, internal sources suggest that several new features are slated for upcoming releases. These reportedly include the ability to generate emoji packs based on typed text and a new chronological search function for past WeChat posts. The app also now supports custom ringtones for incoming calls within its settings.
This update builds on previous iterations that have introduced various functionalities, including video recording in WeChat Camera, converting chat history to notes, and setting video or GIF backgrounds for user statuses. "Gray-scale" testing of features like photo collection from moments and AI-powered search functionalities is also ongoing.
The development of WeChat for HarmonyOS, Huawei's proprietary operating system, is part of a broader effort to enhance the ecosystem. The gradual rollout of new features, often through controlled testing phases, allows for feedback collection before wide deployment.
