WeChat for HarmonyOS Receives Update with New Features
WeChat's HarmonyOS version has rolled out an 8.0.20.41 beta update, introducing several new features and improvements. The update is currently available for invited testers.
IT Home reported on August 4 that WeChat for HarmonyOS has begun rolling out an 8.0.20.41 version update for invited testers. The testing period is scheduled to last until early September. While release notes typically mention only bug fixes, user feedback indicates the new version introduces significant new functionalities.
Key new features include the ability to add notes to favorites, share Video Channel videos as ringtones, and enhanced comment searching within Video Channel. Users can also now share game dynamic pictures with friends, open saved web links directly, and utilize new repair tools for issues related to contacts, group chats, and search functions.
The update also improves the WeChat login experience for third-party applications and mini-programs, allowing for easy deletion and creation of new nicknames. The built-in file viewer now also supports saving files to favorites.
WeChat for HarmonyOS officially launched in January 2025 on Huawei's AppGallery, already supporting core functions like payments and mini-programs. The app has surpassed 69 million installations, approaching a 70 million milestone.
