Chinese technology news outlet IT Home reports that WeChat, the popular messaging application, is conducting tests on new artificial intelligence features. These functionalities, referred to as 'AI writing assistance' and 'AI commenting', are part of WeChat's AI assistant named 'Xiaowei'.

The 'AI writing assistance' feature allows users to input text and images, after which the AI can generate various draft versions for social media posts. The AI commenting function is also under evaluation. These features are currently in a limited, phased testing period.

The 'Xiaowei' assistant is designed to handle various tasks within the WeChat ecosystem, including adjusting settings, sending messages, ordering food or rides, searching for content, and creating images and notes. The expansion into social media content generation aims to enhance user engagement and offer more integrated tools.

Tencent, the parent company of WeChat, has confirmed these AI capabilities are in development and undergoing small-scale testing. The move signifies a broader industry trend of integrating AI into everyday communication platforms to improve user experience and streamline tasks.
