Weeve offers tools to protect AI user privacy

Dutch startup Weeve has developed a suite of tools aimed at protecting user privacy when engaging with artificial intelligence. One core tool, Weeve, automatically removes names, addresses, and other identifying elements from text or files before they are fed into AI services.

This feature is particularly crucial when users leverage free AI services, as their models may use input data for training. Weeve allows users to ensure their sensitive information does not end up in AI training datasets or potentially leak into the public domain. The service is free and requires no downloads or logins.

Weeve also offers other useful tools, including free transcription in 25 languages and a web-based audio recorder. The company's main product is a local AI note-taking tool for Mac that records, transcribes, and summarizes meetings directly on the user's computer, ensuring data never leaves the device.

Other privacy-focused AI tools on the market include MacWhisper, which operates offline, and Vibe for Windows. Proton's Lumo offers an encrypted AI chat assistant, and Basalt helps securely redact sensitive information from PDFs.

Generally, AI privacy presents challenges as many services do not disclose how they use user data. It is advisable to use tools that anonymize data before AI input or opt for services with robust privacy protections.
