Wegmans recalls TopCare eye drops due to sterility concerns
Wegmans has announced the recall of two TopCare brand eye drop products from its stores due to potential sterility assurance concerns identified by manufacturer TopCo.
Wegmans supermarket chain is recalling two TopCare brand eye drop products sold at over 100 locations across nine states and the District of Columbia. The recall was initiated by manufacturer TopCo due to potential issues with sterility assurance, as stated in the grocery chain's notice.
This action is part of a broader pattern of eye drop recalls linked to similar sterility concerns. In May 2025, nearly 76,000 cases of eye care products were recalled by BRS Analytical Service LLC for "unacceptable quality," with the FDA noting a lack of sterility assurance. Earlier in April, over 3.1 million bottles of eye drops from various brands, including TopCare, were recalled due to inadequate testing that could not guarantee sterility.
The products subject to this specific recall are TopCare Original Eye Drops and TopCare Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops. Both products have best-by dates in October and November 2027. Wegmans is advising customers to return the affected items to the customer service desk for a full refund and to discontinue use.
TopCo, the Illinois-based private-label manufacturer, produces the TopCare brand. Concerns over non-sterile eye drops are significant, as such products can lead to serious eye infections and potentially blindness. The company has not yet confirmed if the recalled products were sold at locations other than Wegmans.
