Weixin HarmonyOS Version Tests Video Covers and Other Features

Weixin's HarmonyOS app, version 8.0.20, has initiated a phased testing phase that introduces new functionalities for users, according to Chinese tech outlet IT Home.

The primary update allows users to set videos as covers for their social media 'Moments'. Following the update, users can select a video from their gallery to serve as the cover for their feed. Additionally, users will be able to view video covers set by their friends.

This feature is currently accessible to a limited number of users who have been selected for the 'gray scale' testing. The HarmonyOS version of Weixin has seen several updates since late July, with official logs citing the "fixing of some known issues."

IT Home has also compiled a list of other potential features being tested or rolled out in Weixin for HarmonyOS. These include enhancements to chat notes, video channel sharing, data collection, and cache management within the app. Security has also been addressed with the addition of a security lock for wallet and payment functions.
