Welthungerhilfe Foundation Marks 20 Years of Operation

The Welthungerhilfe Foundation is celebrating 20 years of operation. The foundation's initial capital was 12 million euros and has since grown to around 40 million euros. Over 3,000 donors support the foundation's projects, with the interest earned from their contributions funding concrete measures to combat hunger.

"The Welthungerhilfe Foundation offers supporters an additional way to engage with our work sustainably. Many wish to create something lasting for future generations through testaments or endowed funds. With this capital, we can sustainably defeat hunger in many countries, for example, by enabling people to earn an income," says Dr. Till Wahnbaeck, Managing Director of the Welthungerhilfe Foundation.

Some donors use the foundation to commemorate deceased relatives. Christoph Kraus, for instance, established an endowed fund several years ago in memory of his grandparents to finance water supply projects. "In 2012, I inherited from my grandparents and wanted to do something meaningful and sustainable with the money without having too much hassle. An endowed fund with Welthungerhilfe, where I could determine the name and purpose, was exactly right for me," Kraus explains his commitment.

Welthungerhilfe is one of Germany's largest private aid organizations, operating independently of politics and religious affiliations. Its goal is "Zero Hunger by 2030." The organization has supported over 8,500 projects in 70 countries with 3.27 billion euros, working on the principle of self-help.
