Wende Zomnir Built Urban Decay, Now Launches New Beauty Brand

Wende Zomnir, known for building the makeup brand Urban Decay into a successful company, has embarked on a new venture in the beauty industry. Zomnir co-founded Urban Decay in 1996 and later sold the company to L'Oréal in 2012 for a deal reportedly exceeding $300 million.

Zomnir has a reputation for unconventional business tactics. In one instance, she reportedly obtained a list of makeup buyers from a competitor by accessing their bag without permission, allowing her to secure meetings with major retailers.

Following the success of Urban Decay, Zomnir decided to start over with Caliray, a clean beauty brand inspired by California. She is entering a crowded market where many are now replicating her previous strategies.

Zomnir has stated that her willingness to bend rules and be resourceful has been crucial to her career. This approach allowed her to overcome obstacles and pursue new opportunities after establishing her initial success.
