WeRide Launches Self-Driving Taxi Service in Denmark

Autonomous driving technology firm WeRide announced a strategic partnership with Danish shared electric vehicle platform GreenMobility to establish Denmark's first commercial self-driving taxi service. The initiative signifies WeRide's debut in the Nordic market and its ongoing European expansion.

The service is slated to launch for the public in the first half of 2027, pending regulatory approvals. It will feature WeRide's latest L4-level autonomous GXR robotaxis, which comply with EU regulations. This marks the sixth European country where WeRide is deploying commercial autonomous driving services.

WeRide's European expansion has been rapid, with recent announcements of similar Robotaxi commercialization plans in Madrid, Spain, and Zurich, Switzerland. The Danish project is part of a multi-market strategy, indicating a new phase of parallel advancement and tiered rollout of autonomous services across Europe.

Through its collaboration with GreenMobility, WeRide expands its global partnership network, which includes ride-hailing giants like Uber and Grab, as well as various local operators. This strategy aims to flexibly combine fleet operations and local resources to accelerate the commercialization of Robotaxis in more cities worldwide. WeRide holds autonomous driving licenses in eight countries and operates a fleet of over 3,000 L4 vehicles across 13 countries and more than 40 cities.

The companies will work closely with Danish authorities, including the Danish Road Directorate and the Danish Transport Agency, to ensure compliance with all local and EU laws and regulations. The goal is to provide safe, accessible, and sustainable autonomous mobility services, contributing to Denmark's smart mobility development. GreenMobility operates Northern Europe's largest network of freely accessible shared electric vehicles.
