West Coast Self-Storage, ranked as the eighth-largest facility-management company in 2026, has announced the portfolio-wide rollout of its StorageDefender smart storage units.

The initiative addresses a growing tenant demand for unit-level monitoring capabilities. The system allows renters to track the status of their storage units in real time, aiming to enhance security and peace of mind regarding their stored belongings.

The implementation of this technology is projected to generate approximately $180 in annual gross recurring revenue per enrolled Smart Unit. This new revenue stream comes from fees paid by customers for the use of the Smart Unit feature.

The decision to deploy the technology is based on market analysis and direct tenant feedback that identified a need for such security solutions. The company seeks to strengthen its position in the competitive self-storage market through this investment.
