America's popular game show 'Wheel of Fortune' is set to launch its 44th season on Monday, September 14, featuring a new gameplay element called "Fortune Frenzy." This new segment will be positioned at the beginning of each episode, allowing contestants to earn $1,000 for each puzzle they solve rapidly.
The addition of "Fortune Frenzy" is intended to offer participants a faster path to winning prizes and potentially ease their initial show nerves, according to host Ryan Seacrest. Seacrest stated that the rapid-fire game allows for more gameplay to be incorporated at the top of the show, helping contestants focus on the main game.
Seacrest joined Vanna White as co-host in 2024, succeeding Pat Sajak. White has been a fixture on the show since 1987, while Sajak hosted from 1981 until his departure in 2024.
The announcement of the new game comes shortly after the dismissal of the show's announcer, Jim Thornton, who had been with the program for over a decade. Thornton's termination followed an investigation into alleged misconduct on a commercial flight earlier this year.
