WHO Executive Board selects three candidates for Director-General
The World Health Organization Executive Board has nominated three candidates for the position of Director-General. The final selection will take place during the World Health Assembly in May 2017.
The WHO Executive Board concluded its voting process on January 25, 2017, selecting three candidates to stand for election as the organization's next Director-General. The nominees are Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, David Nabarro, and Sania Nishtar.
The selection followed a series of interviews with five candidates conducted by member states. These three names will now be presented to the World Health Assembly, where all member states will cast their votes to determine the final outcome in May 2017.
The official transition is scheduled for July 1, 2017, when the successful candidate will assume the role. This leadership change marks a pivotal moment for the organization as it oversees global health standards and emergency response efforts.
