WHO Launches Challenge to Showcase Health Co-benefits of Climate Interventions

Geneva/Seoul/Manila – The World Health Organization (WHO) and its Centre for Environment and Health in the Western Pacific have initiated a new program called the “Climate and Health Co-benefits Challenge.” This project aims to identify and showcase concrete examples of climate actions that yield measurable health benefits.

The challenge, supported by The Rockefeller Foundation and the Pathfinder Initiative, calls on governments, researchers, and organizations to submit evidence of climate interventions that have already improved human health and well-being. The goal is to demonstrate that climate-related investments can also be an effective means of promoting health.

"Climate action is one of the most powerful investments we can make in human health," stated Sandro Demaio, Director of the WHO Centre for Environment and Health in the Western Pacific. "This Challenge will make that case with real evidence."

Selected case studies will be highlighted before COP31 climate talks in Fiji in October and will be used to inform climate and health policies and investment decisions globally. The submission period is open from May 18 to August 31, 2026.
