WHO seeks consultant for climate change and health capacity building

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a call for a consultant to contribute to the development of its WHO Academy online training program on Climate Change and Health, as well as other capacity-building activities. The role aims to strengthen national health systems' resilience and response to the impacts of climate change.

Climate change is recognized as a defining challenge of the 21st century, with health protection emerging as a key priority for the public health community. Over 100 countries are committed to enhancing climate resilience and reducing health system emissions through the WHO-led Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH). WHO's strategic objective 14 prioritizes responses to climate change.

The WHO Academy program on Climate Change and Health, launched in December 2023 with its first module, is currently expanding. The consultant will be responsible for finalizing the online course, developing a support package for countries on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) related to health, and completing guidance for low-carbon health systems.

Key deliverables also include updating a global review of national adaptation plans (NAPs) and health NAPs. The position requires an advanced university degree in public health, environmental health, or epidemiology, a minimum of five years of relevant experience, and expert-level English proficiency. The contract duration is expected to be 11 months.
