WHO selects BiologicalE for mRNA technology transfer in India

The WHO's Product Development for Vaccines Advisory Committee (PDVAC) has selected BiologicalE (Bio E) to receive mRNA technology through the organization's global technology transfer hub. The selection follows a review of multiple proposals from Indian manufacturers aimed at expanding the nation’s vaccine production capacity.

BiologicalE currently manufactures vaccines, including the Corbevax COVID-19 vaccine. Under the new agreement, WHO and international partners will collaborate with the Indian government to establish a production roadmap, providing the necessary training and support for the company to begin mRNA vaccine manufacturing.

The mRNA hub was established to address vaccine supply imbalances during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond current pandemic efforts, the project aims to build long-term capacity for developing treatments for other global health priorities, such as HIV, malaria, and cancer.
