A World Health Organization (WHO) humanitarian warehouse in Dnipro, Ukraine, has been struck twice in less than 24 hours. The facility held emergency medical supplies bound for front-line health facilities, all of which were destroyed.
The site was first hit on August 3. Following this initial strike, WHO assessed the location as unsafe and began relocating supplies. On August 7, a WHO staff member and several drivers had just departed the site when it was hit again, directly destroying WHO supplies. Hours later, a third strike obliterated the building.
It remains unclear if Russian forces were responsible for the attacks or their specific objectives. The incidents represent a significant setback for Ukraine's healthcare supply chain amid ongoing hostilities.
The WHO has called upon the international community to ensure the safety of humanitarian aid deliveries in conflict zones. International law protects humanitarian sites, and the deliberate destruction of these locations constitutes a war crime.
WHO continues to support Ukraine through other means, but the security of such warehouses is now a critical concern.
