Why Are Food Recalls Seemingly Increasing This Year?

Taylor Farms recently recalled its iceberg lettuce amidst a widespread cyclospora outbreak. Shortly thereafter, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall of over one million eggs suspected of salmonella contamination. These eggs, produced by Midwest Poultry Services and distributed to stores across the Southern and Southwestern United States, were part of this recall.
Furthermore, Taylor Farms pulled more than a dozen products containing jalapeños from store shelves. The recall was prompted by a salmonella contamination identified in fresh peppers by its supplier, Coast Citrus Distributors. These events highlight the complex and often vulnerable nature of food supply chains.
