Windows 11 Security Feature Rollout May Affect Gaming Performance

Microsoft is set to expand the availability of its memory integrity security feature on Windows 11 devices starting next month. This kernel-level protection mechanism is intended to prevent unauthorized code and drivers from running on a user's system.
Previously, Microsoft had cautioned that the enablement of memory integrity could lead to a decrease in PC gaming performance. The company stated that Windows quality updates will begin activating this feature on eligible devices. If memory integrity is not already enabled, these updates will also activate Virtualization-based Security (VBS).
This broader rollout signifies Microsoft's ongoing efforts to enhance Windows 11 security by default. VBS, which memory integrity relies on, creates isolated virtual environments to further protect system processes.
While the security benefits are clear, users, particularly gamers, may need to assess the trade-off between heightened security and potential performance degradation on their systems.
