Windows 11 Share in China Drops Below 50% in August 2026

Windows 11's dominance in China's desktop operating system market has slipped, with its share falling to 49.16% in August 2026. This marks a 0.85 percentage point decrease from the prior month, according to data released by market research firm Statcounter. The decline brings Windows 11's share below the 50% threshold for the first time in months.

Conversely, Windows 10 experienced a gain, increasing its market share by 1.11 percentage points to reach 44.67%. This shift narrows the gap between the two most recent Windows versions.

Older operating systems continue to hold a notable presence. Windows 7 held 4.36% of the market, a decrease of 1.08 percentage points. Notably, Windows XP saw a slight increase, reaching 1.6%. Combined, Windows 7 and Windows XP still represent close to 6% of the desktop OS market.

Data over the past year shows a fluctuating trend for Windows 11 in China, peaking at 67.17% in February 2026 before a steady decline. The recent trend indicates a slowdown in Windows 11 adoption and a stabilization of users on older versions.
