Windows 11 Update Adds Movable Taskbar and Resizable Start Menu
Microsoft's latest Windows 11 build, 26100.9445, introduces the ability to position the taskbar on any screen edge and adjust the Start menu size. The update also includes numerous bug fixes.
Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for Windows 11, bringing significant customization options for the taskbar and Start menu. The update, identified as KB5124008, brings Windows 11 24H2 to build 26100.9445 and Windows 11 25H2 to build 26200.9445.
The most notable new feature allows users to move the taskbar to any edge of the screen – top, bottom, left, or right. This marks the first time since Windows 11's initial release in 2021 that the taskbar's position can be customized so extensively. Additionally, the update enables users to adjust the size of the Start menu, with options for 'small' and 'large' beyond its default automatic scaling.
The update also incorporates features previously available in optional testing builds. Users can now customize the Start menu to display only pinned apps or just the 'All apps' list, by removing the 'Recommended' section. For Windows Search, users can now disable results from Bing and the Microsoft Store, focusing the search on local files, apps, and Windows settings.
As with previous cumulative updates, this release addresses a wide array of issues. While an earlier report mentioned 974 vulnerabilities fixed in total, including 723 for the Windows system itself, Microsoft's official release notes typically detail fixes more broadly. These new features are now available to all users following the installation of the update.
