Winn-Dixie Continues Store Closures
Winn-Dixie's parent company, Southeastern Grocers, has continued closing stores in Southern states as part of a broader restructuring. Many of the shuttered locations are outside Florida.
The supermarket chain Winn-Dixie has continued to close stores across multiple Southern states as part of a larger restructuring by its parent company, Southeastern Grocers. Dozens of Winn-Dixie and Harveys locations have been closed or sold throughout 2026, primarily impacting Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
The initial announcement regarding store closures came in October 2025, when the company stated its intention to renew focus on Florida and close stores in Alabama. This strategy expanded in early 2026 to encompass additional states, coinciding with the rebranding from Southeastern Grocers to The Winn-Dixie Company.
Following these closures, approximately 327 Winn-Dixie stores, representing about 91 percent of the chain's total footprint, will remain in Florida. The company is also proceeding with a previously announced plan to convert around 220 stores to Aldi, a process expected to conclude by 2027.
Winn-Dixie plans to invest in the brand's future across Florida and southern Georgia. These investments are directed towards opening new stores, refreshing existing locations, and enhancing product offerings, while maintaining a commitment to value and quality for customers.
