Wix' Base44 Launches Base Code for GitHub Development

Wix's Base44 unit has launched Base Code, a new product integrating with GitHub code repositories. This browser-based environment aims to enhance team collaboration and code delivery directly from development tools, entering a competitive market.

Base Code analyzes existing codebases to create a cloud-based workspace where teams can edit code using natural language prompts. The tool enables real-time viewing of changes, submission of updates through existing review workflows, and provisioning of databases and infrastructure.

Designed with security in mind, Base Code includes features such as secret key encryption and repository permission controls. The launch places Wix in direct competition with other AI-powered coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor.

Wix previously acquired Base44, though the terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Pricing and availability for Base Code remain unclear. The product also enters a market where developers can already create GitHub-connected remote development environments, such as through Microsoft's Codespaces.
