World Cup Final Drew More Betting Action Than Most Major U.S. Championships

The 2026 World Cup generated an unprecedented level of betting activity in the United States, surpassing almost every major domestic sporting event.

According to sportsbooks and technology providers within the U.S. sports betting industry, the tournament broke all previous records for soccer betting. In terms of total betting volume, it was on par with the country's largest and longest-running sporting events.

Caesars Sportsbook reported that the 2026 World Cup generated 30% more bets and a slightly higher total betting volume than the men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments combined. DraftKings noted a 650% increase in bets taken compared to the 2022 tournament, while BetMGM saw a 211% increase.

The surge in betting is attributed partly to timing and accessibility. It marked the first World Cup played in a market where mobile sports betting was legal for a significant portion of the population. The tournament's location in North America and the participation of the U.S. national team were also cited as major factors in increasing public interest.
