World Cup Viewers Prefer Festive Watch Parties Over Casual Gatherings
More than 75% of FIFA World Cup viewers plan to host or attend watch parties, transforming the event into a major social occasion. An event planner suggests elevating these gatherings into international street festival experiences.

LOS ANGELES – As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches its championship match, over 75% of viewers intend to host or attend watch parties, making the tournament a significant social event, according to NIQ research.
Celebrity event planner Marley Majcher, founder of The Party Goddess!, emphasizes that these events are about creating an experience, not just watching a game. "The best World Cup parties feel less like a living room and more like an international street festival," Majcher stated. She advises focusing on creating immersive environments inspired by global cultures, flavors, and music, rather than relying on generic sports decorations.
Majcher proposes transforming backyards into international street festivals by designing country-specific "destinations," such as a French café corner or a Brazilian tropical lounge. She also suggests building an "Around the World Snack Stadium" that showcases elevated bites from diverse football-loving cultures, including Argentinian empanadas and Japanese katsu sliders.
Elevated food and drink presentation can also tell a story. Majcher encourages offering signature cocktails and mocktails inspired by different nations. Interactive elements like prediction cards or "World Cup passports" can further engage guests. "Luxury isn't about spending the most money," Majcher noted, "it's about creating moments people remember."
