World Power Battery Conference Showcases New Battery Technologies
The 2026 World Power Battery Conference in China unveiled significant advancements in battery technology, including ultra-fast charging batteries and high-energy-density hybrid cells.

The 2026 World Power Battery Conference, held in Yibin, Sichuan from September 3-4, has announced a series of new battery technologies. Academician Ouyang Minggao presented several breakthroughs expected to enhance electric vehicle performance and safety.
Key announcements included ultra-fast charging capabilities for power batteries, enabling safe charging in approximately ten minutes. Additionally, high-energy-density (350Wh/kg) and high-safety hybrid solid-liquid batteries were showcased, now entering mass production. The conference also highlighted advancements in battery longevity for swappable electric vehicles and large-capacity, safe energy storage batteries that have achieved mass production.
New materials and manufacturing processes were also introduced. Fourth-generation high-density lithium iron phosphate materials are achieving specific energies exceeding 200Wh/kg. Furthermore, a battery technology for all-weather thermal management in vehicle batteries was presented, addressing issues of slow charging in cold conditions and overheating in high temperatures. A new high-speed winding technology for next-generation square batteries significantly improved production efficiency.
The conference, hosted in Yibin since 2022, has attracted over 1,100 enterprises and nearly 7,000 guests. It has seen the release of nearly 700 new technologies and products and the signing of contracts for over 400 major projects, totaling nearly 380 billion yuan in investments. Leading companies, including Tesla, Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), and BYD, were among the participants.
Yibin is recognized as the "Capital of Power Batteries in China," boasting significant production capacity. CATL maintains a substantial manufacturing presence in the region, with additional capacity under construction, underscoring the city's pivotal role in the global battery industry.
