World Water Council calls for revised international water governance policy
Addressing the 9th Cairo Water Week, World Water Council President Loïc Fauchon urged international stakeholders to adopt a new doctrine regarding global water management.

During the opening of the 9th Cairo Water Week on October 26, 2026, the World Water Council formally proposed a restructuring of global water usage policies. President Loïc Fauchon emphasized that existing frameworks are no longer sufficient to address the escalating challenges of scarcity and distribution.
The proposal seeks to shift how governments and international bodies prioritize water access. By calling for a "new doctrine," the organization aims to move away from current reactive measures toward a more formalized, structured management system that addresses both consumption and ecological preservation.
Water security remains a critical issue for global economic stability and public health. As climate patterns become less predictable, international organizations are increasingly pressed to provide standardized guidelines that transcend national borders to mitigate potential resource conflicts.
