The 'Oriental Wisdom', the world's largest methanol and fuel oil-powered container vessel, began its commercial maiden voyage at Qingdao Port, China, on July 3. The vessel was loaded with over 3,000 standard containers and underwent a 1,500-ton methanol bunkering operation before departing for major Northern European ports.

With a length of nearly 400 meters and a capacity of 24,168 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), the ship is the largest of its kind globally. It features a domestically integrated methanol-fuel oil dual-fuel power system, allowing for flexible fuel switching during voyages. This design aims to meet the demands of high-intensity long-haul transport while addressing emission reduction targets.

Constructed by Nantong Cosco Shipping Kawasaki and operated globally by Orient Overseas Container Lines, a subsidiary of Cosco Shipping Holdings, the 'Oriental Wisdom' was delivered from Jiangsu province on June 26.

Technicians highlighted the vessel's advanced dual-fuel system. When using green methanol, it significantly reduces carbon emissions, marking a breakthrough in China's development of large-scale, low-carbon, and intelligent vessels.
