The World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) is set to race in China for the first time in 2027, organizers announced today. The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and WorldSBK confirmed the new venue as part of the 2027 season calendar.

The inaugural Chinese round will take place at the Shanghai International Circuit from October 29-31, 2027, serving as the final event of the season. This follows a strategic cooperation agreement between Shanghai Jiushi Dongyu Culture & Tourism Group and DORNA WorldSBK ORGANIZATION SRL.

Founded in 1988, WorldSBK is one of the two premier global motorcycle road racing championships alongside MotoGP. Unlike MotoGP's prototype machines, WorldSBK features modified production-based motorcycles. The series currently includes multiple categories, such as WorldSBK (superbike), WorldSSP (supersport), and a new entry-level class, WorldSPB.

The Shanghai International Circuit, inaugurated in 2004 and designed by Hermann Tilke, has a history of hosting major international motorsport events, including Formula 1. The addition of WorldSBK to the calendar signifies the championship's expansion into China, providing a significant platform for Chinese motorcycle manufacturers like Zhang Xue Motorcycles and CFMoto.

Gregorio Lavilla, Executive Director of WorldSBK, called the event a "major milestone," highlighting the growing influence of Chinese manufacturers and the opportunity to connect the series with Chinese fans and industry. The Shanghai event is expected to boost Chinese brands' global presence and foster industry development.
