Wrist-worn device shipments down 4.3% in second quarter

Global shipments of wrist-worn devices fell by 4.3% year-on-year in the second quarter, totaling 48.01 million units. This decline encompassed both smartwatch and fitness band categories.

The smartwatch segment experienced a 4.2% decrease, shipping 37.08 million units. Fitness bands saw a 4.7% reduction in shipments, reaching 10.92 million units, according to IDC.

Huawei led the global wrist-worn device market in terms of shipments during the quarter, followed by Xiaomi and Apple. The future growth trajectory of the market is under observation.

IDC stated that the market's next growth phase will hinge on manufacturers' ability to translate advancements in AI, health monitoring, and new form factors into compelling use cases that encourage consumers to upgrade their current devices.
