WSBK Series Plans for Chinese Grand Prix in 2027

The Superbike World Championship (WSBK) is considering the addition of a Chinese Grand Prix to its 2027 season calendar, with Ningbo and Shanghai identified as potential host cities. The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has reportedly inspected the Ningbo International Speed Circuit, assessing necessary modifications for homologation. The Shanghai International Circuit, which previously hosted MotoGP from 2005 to 2008, is also a strong contender.

The exact scheduling for the potential Chinese round remains undecided. However, reports suggest it could serve as the twelfth and final event of the season in October. This autumn timing is due to unfavorable weather conditions in China during February, making it unsuitable to be held concurrently with the season-opening Australian round at Phillip Island, scheduled for February 19-21, 2027.

WSBK organizers have engaged with Chinese motorcycle manufacturers, including QJ Motor, which currently competes in the Supersport class, and CFMoto, which aims to enter the top Superbike category. The increasing presence of Chinese brands like Kayo, QJ Motor, and CFMoto in the WSBK paddock is seen as a positive development for the inclusion of a Chinese race.

Beyond the potential new venue, the 2027 WSBK season will introduce technical rule changes, such as manufacturer-specific RPM limits and fuel flow restrictions. While the inclusion of a Chinese round is in the planning stages, final contracts and confirmation are pending. The growing international motorsport presence in China is further evidenced by confirmed MXGP events in Shanghai and Ziyang.
