Wuling and CATL launch new battery technology for urban delivery vehicles
Wuling Commercial Vehicles and CATL have jointly developed a new generation of battery technology specifically for urban delivery vehicles. The new battery supports individual cell replacement and promises a significantly longer lifespan.

Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer Wuling and battery giant CATL have unveiled a new generation of battery technology designed for urban delivery operations. This co-developed battery aims to address key pain points for delivery fleet operators, including battery degradation from frequent charging, slower charging speeds in high temperatures, and long-term maintenance costs.
The battery is engineered to meet the demands of urban logistics, characterized by frequent stops and starts, heavy loads, and continuous operation. Wuling stated that the focus has shifted from adapting batteries to vehicles to defining batteries based on urban delivery scenarios. The upcoming Wuling Yang Guang L van will be among the first vehicles to feature this new battery.
A key feature is the battery's enhanced durability and charging performance. CATL claims the battery can withstand 10,000 charge cycles at 25°C and 5,000 cycles at 45°C, significantly exceeding conventional battery lifespans. Fast charging capability allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes. The battery maintains efficient charging even at temperatures up to 65°C, with a thermal management system designed to optimize performance in both hot and cold weather.
The battery's physical design prioritizes space efficiency and robustness. It measures 145mm in thickness, over 28% thinner than comparable battery packs, and boasts a 60% increase in structural strength. Notably, the battery supports the replacement of individual cells, which Wuling estimates can reduce maintenance costs by up to 90%. The company offers an 8-year or 600,000-kilometer warranty on the battery, anticipating that its longevity and reduced degradation will also enhance the vehicle's residual value.
