X CEO Comments on Luxeed V800 Brake Pedal Incident
Chinese tech outlet IT Home reports on an incident involving Luxeed V800 vehicles where brake pedal brackets reportedly broke during emergency braking tests. The manufacturer has responded with a plan for upgrades.
An incident involving the Luxeed V800 electric vehicle, a product of the collaboration between Huawei and Chery Automobile, has come to light following reports from Chinese tech outlet IT Home. DONGCHE DI, a vehicle information platform, published test results showing that the brake pedal bracket on three Luxeed V800 vehicles fractured during emergency braking from 100 km/h.
The issue quickly gained traction online and prompted a response from Luxeed Automobile. The company issued a statement asserting that its braking system was developed and validated to standards exceeding national and industry requirements. They maintained that no such failures had occurred in real-world usage since the first vehicles were delivered.
However, Wang Gaofei, CEO of X (formerly Twitter), weighed in on the matter. He suggested that the joint venture, Hongmeng Zhixing, should prioritize the user's perspective and protect the Huawei brand's reputation. Wang proposed that pausing deliveries and scrutinizing factory test records would be a reasonable approach to address the situation and maintain customer trust.
Luxeed has outlined a plan to address the issue for existing owners, offering free upgrades expected to begin in November. Vehicles not yet shipped will be produced with the optimized braking components. The company has clarified that these actions will not be considered a recall.
